Business Intelligence (BI)

The right decision making is the foundation of success for any company, not only for top management, but also in the everyday work of individual employees. The key to making the right decisions is knowledge and experience, as well as up-to-date and accurate information.

Minerva provides customers tools for supporting decision making on two levels:

  • BI tools for middle management
  • BI tools for top management

BI tools for middle management

The goal is to provide users up-to-date information in the required form for the short-term timeframe. These tools are available directly in QAD Enterprise Applications. The application contains a function that enables the custom definition of the required indicators. These indicators can also be graphically grouped into control panels to implement, for example, a company-wide control strategy. This method can be used to apply, for example, a simplified concept of a balanced scorecard (BSC), which uses an appraisal of the causal relationships of a four-level view of the enterprise:

  1. Financial - Owners are mainly interested in financial results. In order for these to be favourable, customers must want to buy our products.
  2. Customer  – Views of our success on the market can be expressed using various indicators. Good results depend on the proper functioning of company processes.
  3. Internal business processes – Production and purchasing are the most frequently analysed areas. However, for these processes to be as efficient as possible employees must know they are to behave in each situation.
  4. Learning & growth – Typically connected with employee turnover, training, motivation plans, and other related matters.

The defined indicators activate specific QAD EA functions, which provide a comprehensive view of the given area, with the possibility of graphs and drill down analyses.

What is the most frequently analysed?

Sales performance is mainly analysed from the following three perspectives:

  • Customer
  • Product assortment
  • Sales representative

Definable analyses, including drill down analyses and graphs

The results of analyses acquired from QAD EA contain specific realized revenue and gross profit margin, i.e. differences between realized sales prices and planned product costs.
From the perspective of the customer you can use the following criteria in analyses: customer, groups of customers, region, preferential class, and others.
From the perspective of product assortment: product, groups of products, line of products, types of products, and others.

In the area of production QAD EA offers interesting views of the use of capacity units and their efficiency. Departments can be used as general classification in efficiency queries; more specific queries can be conducted by production centres, with the most detailed queries being performed by individual machines.

Financial performance can be monitored by individual legal subjects for which QAD EA performs consolidated accounting reports. The performance of divisions and cost centres of these individual subjects can be analysed, and the resulting views can be combined in various manners.

Business Intelligence tools for top management

The goal of these tools is to provide information from a long-term perspective, particularly for purposes of strategic planning and modelling.

Processing data from the company information system is no longer sufficiently effective. It is necessary that data be prepared ahead of time in a comprehensive form and that work with this data does not burden the company system. For this purpose we provide a data warehouse – special databases for BI tools. This warehouse has predefined libraries with a data structure suitable for analysing any long history of company processes. Data pumps are available to periodically (or as needed) fill the data storage with data from the QAD EA company information system and tools are available for the analysis of this data or for connecting the warehouse to an external BI application.

You can decide whether to use the analytical tool Cognos or the tool for analysis and strategic planning - Business Navigation System (BNS).
